Ekpo: Don't Force Player On Keshi

Ex-international, Friday Ekpo has expressed dissatisfaction over the way and manner at which some Nigerians are clamouring for the re-call of both Ikechukwu Uche and Osaze Odemwingie back to the Super Eagles, Complete Sports can report.

The former Abiola Babes of Abeokuta player faulted those calling for the recall of the duo that have not featured for the Super Eagles in the last one year saying their return could only cause distraction to the team ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

“I don’t think begging Keshi to invite certain players will guarantee that desired success or immediately solve the prevailing problem in the team. I am not saying these two guys are not good enough; but I think begging Keshi to do things that are not in tandem with his plans about the team is an act of disrespect to his office and a distraction to be  precise,”he began.

“I have said over times that coaches should be left alone to do their job rather than distracting them. Their employer believed they know the job and can do it that is why they were employed. But, ignorantly, we think we do this to help coaches, but not knowing that it goes a long way in mounting pressure and also cause confusion to their plans,” he continues.

“Irrespective of what we feel or know about these players at their different club sides do not give us enough prerogatives to compel decisions on these national team handlers on who to invite and not to invite. If you don’t know, they follow the players’ development more than we do.

“What if we beg them today to do what we feel good and tomorrow they flop in their assignments, what would be our reaction? I will not be surprised if we are the same people that will even be calling for their heads when they fail”.
